Connecting to the North Texas Gigapop
As a
Sponsored Education Group Participant
The North Texas Gigapop invites participation in Internet2 by institutions that are eligible to join I2 as “Sponsored Education Group Participants” in Texas. SEGP-eligible institutions may connect to the NT Gigapop in one of two methods:
1. Obtaining a connection through one of the NT Gigapop full members. The full member may impose a fee for sharing its bandwidth and any costs for connecting in this manner are negotiated between the Gigapop member and the SEGP institution. The SEGP institution does not gain any membership rights in the Gigapop when connecting by this method.
2. Joining the Gigapop as a full member and sharing in the costs of the Gigapop’s operation. Currently, the initiation fee for joining is $100,000 (that fee reflects the sunk costs of establishing the Gigapop as well as ongoing costs of operation) and the fee covers membership fees for the year in which the new member joins.
Additional information about connecting to the NT Gigapop as a
SEGP participant may be obtained from the NT Gigapop Management Council chair, Maurice Leatherbury (leatherbury@unt.edu.)
